4th of July Engagement!

Andrew and I had wanted to go to Boston to see the Pops for a few years. Unfortunately, being a lifeguard, I was never able to get the time off to go. This year, I had a real job and a three-day weekend to enjoy. So I asked if he wanted to go, and he said yes. Little did I know I was playing right into his plan.

We stayed at the Sheraton next to the Prudential on the 25th floor. It was awesome! Walked around Friday night, had dinner at the Cheesecake factory and then prepared for our long wait at the Esplanade the next day. We got there around 2 after a nice short walk from our hotel and set up camp on the banks of the Charles. We thought that it might rain after the crazy amounts we've had this summer, but it was a beautiful day.

We played cards and people watched all day, and the show began around 8. The flyover went directly over where we were standing. Coolest thing ever! The show was great...we got to sing Sweet Caroline twice (once during commercial) because Craig Ferguson  wanted to. Haha.

Then the fireworks began! I've been in Boston for New Years Eve before and the fireworks then were awesome. These trumped them hands down. The only problem was we were downwind of the barges, so we got all of the soot from the fireworks in our eyes. This wasn't too bad until something landed in my eye that felt like it was a chemical burning. So Andrew was digging through his backpack, trying to find the water so I could flush my eyes out. I finally got it to stop burning and finished watching the show.

The next thing I know Andrew is talking about how amazing I am and how much he loves me and that he only had one question: Would I marry him? I don't know when he put the ring box in his pocket but it was in his hand when I turned around (he was standing behind me and I was leaning into him during the fireworks). According to him I just kept saying, "Really?! Really!?" with a big grin on my face. Of course I said yes! My mom later asked if people around us knew what was happening, but I honestly don't know what was going on other than what was right in front of me...my future husband.

Of course we had to call our parents. I called mine first and found out as I was calling that my dad was the only one who knew. He had talked to him the week before. Of course I then found out that he had been planning on proposing after the Pops since I had graduated the year before. He began looking for the ring in March, and then talked to my dad. Sneaky boy!
